Saturday Soul Sessions: DJ Mike Canton at Golden Age Beer Co. | June 20

Golden Age Beer Co 337 E. 8th Avenue, Homestead

Saturday Soul Sessions: DJ Mike Canton at Golden Age Beer Co. | June 20 12:00 PM  4:00 PM Golden Age Beer Company337 East 8th AvenueHomestead, PA, 15120United States (map) Saturday Soul Sessions returns with our good friend Mike Canton (a/k/a “Soul Show Mike”) from Pittsburgh’s famed “The Soul Show” (weekly, every Saturday on WZUM Pittsburgh). We’re honored every time Mike drops in to play some deep cuts from his infinite database of funk, soul, and groove tracks.   We love lager. We started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. From crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking, “lawnmower” American lager, we believe that, with their clean, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse, lagers are the beers that bring people together, that cross divides, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and, more particularly, to Homestead.  Indeed, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full […]

How to Spot Counterfeit Beanie Babies (the “Furpile” video compendium) at the Glitterbox Theater | June 20

The Glitterbox Theater 210 W 8th St, Homestead

How to Spot Counterfeit Beanie Babies (the "Furpile" video compendium) at the Glitterbox Theater This screening will include work by Jackie Blue, Lucie Cartwright, Jennifer Marie Cella, Cecelia Condit, flavushh, Jodie Mack, Eleanor McQueeney, Bea Orlandi, Tex Saber, and Mark Zubrovich (among others). More information about the show, including other ways to view these sculptors, is available here: https://whose.neocities.org We have used toys the same way for the length of human history. All that time, we have asked, what do these toys do when we're not playing with them? "How to Spot Counterfeit Beanie Babies" is a grey market VHS tape released in 1998. The tape itself is auxiliary to a speculative market surrounding Ty's line of Beanie Baby stuffed animals which, for a few short years, would demand price points in the thousands before abruptly cratering in value at the close of the 20th century. The tape was not produced by the Ty corporation, though it was permitted to use the company's branding off the books, as the point of the tape was to signify the value of the company to the niche set of whale investors who propped up the Beanie bubble in question. The Beanie bubble is […]
