Whether you're a longtime resident, a newcomer to the area, or someone looking for things to do near Pittsburgh, Homestead, Munhall, and West Homestead are filled with unique experiences, local events, outdoor recreation, arts, entertainment, and community celebrations. To help you plan your summer, we've put together ten great ways to experience the Steel Valley. 1. Walk, Run or Bike the GAP Trail The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP Trail) is one of the region's greatest outdoor assets. Stretching from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Maryland, the trail passes directly through the Steel Valley and offers beautiful river views, historic landmarks, and easy access to local businesses, restaurants, and attractions.     Princess Lavender's Dream Cabaret at the Glitterbox Theater | Aug 14 Welcome to Princess Lavender's Dream Kink and Leather Cabaret đŸ¶where we will be showcasing wonderful performances from local kinksters and local leather folks. It's truly my dream to bring together different parts of the community and being able to showcase everyone's inner voyeur. Door time will be at 6:30 and the show will start at 7:00. Please bring your dollars to tip these lovely performers and open your eyes to the wonderful world of leather and Kink. We will also be raffling off wonderful leather pieces and other delights to raise money for the next Iron City Pets of 2027!     Borbo, Prism and Friends at the Glitterbox Theater Borbo/Prism is an eponymous duo of artists. They hail from Bushwick, Brooklyn- famously memed for its colorful cast of characters- where they work extensively in the DIY experimental performance art scene. Prism’s (they/she) work is focused on visual storytelling, with a heavy reliance on folkloric imagery. Having come-of-age in the Appalachian countryside of Ohio, their works’ themes often reflect on the conflicting reality of tradition and personal identity. Prism practices mostly in the mediums of conventional “feminine craft” (sewing, embroidery, applique, textiles). They then force new meaning onto these heavily connotated mediums by enmeshing them with the performance art practices typically overrun with male artists (puppetry, noise music, clowning). Borbo (it/its) is a queer non-binary percussionist, performance artist, and noise clown. It draws inspiration from a wide range of genres, including psychedelia, free improvisation, and jazz-fusion. Anything it can strike, scrape or shake is a potential musical instrument - drum sets, found objects, toys, and self-made percussive sculptures are all fair game. Borbo has also been observed using live electronics and contact mics as an electro-acoustic tool to augment its percussive sonic palette.
