FREE! January 11th, 2-4PM Have you ever wondered, “what’s out there about me?” Come find out and learn what you can do about it! We will touch on advance search tactics, combating data brokers, locking down your social media, device hardening and secure communication tactics that will make you harder to track. Some tech knowledge is a plus but not required. Hosted by Sally Louise Polk (Fussy Louise) and taught by Abigail LP of the Freedom of the Press Foundation. Abigail LP (they/them) is a local activist, artist and educator. By day they work as the Program Manager for the Digital Security Training Team at Freedom of the Press Foundation. Also by day, they produce art with arts collaborative folkLAB, participate in community organizing and offer training on a range of topics including digital security, using art as activism, and understanding antisemitism through an anti-colonial lens. In our four hours together, we will play amidst the mess, attempt to be possessed rather than possess, and learn from the figure of the clown—for whom failure is a gift.  An attempt to follow pleasure amidst impossible circumstances. Some can’t help but run their mouths.   In this experimental clown/improv workshop, we will explore absurd language as an avenue for discovery. Through clowning games and improvisational exercises that use invented words, dubbing, translation, babbling, and sound effects, we will explore what special kinds of fun can emerge when we turn our legibility down to level zero while keeping our dignity turned up to level 10. How fun can it be to make no sense? All are welcome! No clowning experience required. Participants will be given on-the-fly feedback throughout the workshop, while also being asked to work quickly and embrace moments of uncertainty—so the more ready you are to dive in, the more we can play, fail, and discover together as a group.     Blacksmithing Basics: Hooks & Hairpins at Rivers of Steel, Carrie Blast Furnaces This three-hour introductory workshop is a great way to explore the art of blacksmithing and create something unique. Participants will learn the basics of forging steel and use essential blacksmithing tools to create a steel hook or hairpin to take home. These sessions are led by Rivers of Steel staff artist and bladesmith Jared Ondovchik (aka Artifact Metalworks). Special holiday workshops: Halloween Date Nights – Get spooky during this three-hour Halloween-themed couples’ workshop and learn the basics of blacksmithing.
