This is a family-friendly event designed to bring the entire community together. \nWhere\nCalhoun ParkWest Homestead Volunteer Fire StationCalhoun FieldWest Homestead\, PA \nWest Homestead’s 125th Anniversary Celebration | Aug 13-15\nAbout West Homestead\nHistory\nWest Homestead is a borough on the Monongahela River in Allegheny County\, Pennsylvania\, eight miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The population has changed only slightly over the years\, reflecting turns in local industry and commerce. According to the 1910 census\, 3\,009 people lived in West Homestead; as of the 2010 census\, the population was 1\,929. \nThere are two primary residential communities in West Homestead: the historic district and the Village\, a post-WW II hilltop community. The historic district consists of a series of hillside residential streets adorned by intact worker houses reflecting the architecture of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century period when most of these homes were originally built. Comprised of homes perfectly suited for contemporary restoration\, this neighborhood has a commanding view of the gorgeous river valley. \nOne of the most noteworthy structures in the historic district is the great Mesta Mansion and accompanying gardens\, which was originally built by steel manufacturer and engineer George Mesta\, founder of the Mesta Machine Company. Upon his death in 1925 the mansion became the property of his widow\, the celebrated socialite and political hostess Perle Mesta\, and remained in the Mesta family until the 1970s. This marvelous structure is on the National Register of Historic Places and has undergone a luxurious  and ongoing restoration process in recent years. \nAnother feature of the historic district is the Bulgarian Macedonian National Educational and Cultural Center on West Eighth Avenue. Since 1935\, this facility has continued to be the center of Bulgarian and Macedonian cultural activity in Western Pennsylvania. West Homestead’s Eighth Avenue itself is a tree-lined boulevard adorned by Victorian shops on the National Register of Historic Places\, and the neighborhood is surrounded by the largest group of ethnic churches on the National Register. \nWest Homestead Living\nThe West Homestead community was originally marked by the steel industry that dominated the region. As the character and personality of the area changed in the latter half of the twentieth century\, West Homestead embraced the progress. Sandcastle Water Park\, a family favorite that draws crowds from all over the region\, opened in 1989\, and the year 2000 saw the opening of The Waterfront\, a magnificent shopping center built on the former site of the US Steel Works. \nMost of the structures associated with the steel mills have been removed\, but some of the brick stacks from the Homestead Steel Works have been retained as a visible link to the area’s industrial past. \nProud of its history and fully encompassing the technological and cultural advances of the twenty-first century\, West Homestead is a safe\, family-friendly community offering a welcoming array of shops\, restaurants\, hotels and other businesses to suit any need or appetite. \nWe are proud of the folks serving and protecting our community – our law enforcement officers\, our volunteer firefighters\, first-rate maintenance crew and borough personnel\, and our local government officials are all working together to make West Homestead a wonderful place to call home.

FREE Parking.WE hope YOU will join our Thursday night community! \nPaul Cosentino has been a full-time musician and bandleader for over 30 years\, specializing in classic jazz and popular music from the 1920s to the 1940s. Paul plays an antique Albert System clarinet\, which gives him a wonderfully distinctive sound not often heard on today’s bandstands. In addition to providing vocals\, Paul also splits time on the alto and tenor saxophones. Paul has an extensive repertoire of tunes encompassing the Great American Songbook- written by some of the best-known composers of American popular song. He is also well versed in early New Orleans jazz\, the Swing Era\, big band riffs\, and everything in between. Paul is known globally for his enthusiastic\, energetic\, and powerful performances. \nPaul Cosentino founded the Boilermaker Jazz Band in 1988. Paul has also been featured as a soloist with many of the top bands in the swing world today\, including a special appearance with the Jonathan Stout All-Star Big Band during an Artie Shaw tribute set. Paul has also been featured with Glen Crytzer’s Rhythm Makers\, Michael Gambles Rhythm Serenaders\, the Gordon Webster Band\, Naomi and Her Handsome Devils\, the Russ Wilson Swingtet\, Clint Baker’s Golden Gate Swing Band\, and many more. He has also led a number of All-Star groups. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh.
