DESCRIPTION:Golden Age Jazz Fest at Golden Age Beer Co. | Sept 3 – 6\nGolden Age is proud to present our second annual Golden Age Jazz Fest\, an all-local jazz fest dedicated to the incredible jazz musicians that keep Pittsburgh as a jazz mecca around the world. \nThis year’s schedule: \nThursday\, Sept 3:\n6p-9p: Boilermaker Jazz Band \nFriday\, Sept 4:\n3:30p – 6:30p: Antonio Croes\, solo piano\n7p – 10p: Dwayne Dolphin Fo’tet \nSat Sept 5:\nNoon- 3p: Anton DeFade Quintette\n3:30p- 6:30p: Paul Cosentino’s Boilermaker Jazz Band (with Grace Elliott)\n7p- 10p Roger Humphries and RH Factor \nSun Sept 6:\nNoon- 3p Thomas Wendt Quartet\n4p- 7p Paul Cosentino Swing Orchestra \nEnjoy a full weekend of live entertainment\, great food and drinks\, and tropical vibes in the heart of the Steel Valley. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. The second of three libraries built here in the Mon Valley\, the Carnegie Library of Homestead was built for use by the common man but adorned with grandeur and opulence fit for a royal family. The Carnegie Library of Homestead is the oldest Carnegie library in continuous operation in its original structure in the US\, and was chosen by CNN in 2014 as one of the 27 most fascinating libraries in the world to visit. Unique to other libraries\, it also is home to a full-service athletic facility and grand concert hall. \nAlso known as the Carnegie of Homestead\, its modern mission is to provide programs and facilities that enhance learning\, wellness and quality of life within and outside the Steel Valley. Today\, we serve over 17\,000 residents of Munhall\, Homestead\, West Homestead\, Whitaker\, and families in nearby communities such as West Mifflin\, Lincoln Place\, Hays\, Greenfield\, Squirrel Hill\, Duquesne and more. The Carnegie of Homestead uplifts and improves the lives of youth\, families and the elderly\, by serving as a community activities center for families and groups throughout the Mon Valley. \nThe Library holds 3\,000\,000 county-wide items in collection including books\, audiobooks\, DVDs\, CDs\, newspapers\, magazines and eResources. There are nearly 7\,000 cardholders (35% of our residents) and on average 733 people visit daily. 30 computers provide over 30\,000 online access sessions annually by the general public\, including disadvantaged individuals who cannot afford home computers and online services. The library holds over 1\,000 learning programs annually in which almost 20\,000 participate of all ages. On any given day\, a variety of activities are happening: toddler and children story time\, arts and crafts; science and art classes for homeschooled children; literacy outreach & book distribution to 30+ local preschools and daycare centers; homework assistance for teens equipped with computers and media; laptops and iPads with college-level computer programming\, and STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Arts\, Math) workshops including robotics in the Makerspace classroom; book clubs for teens through seniors\, knitting classes\, crafting workshops for adults\, and cultural programs such as Japanese or Russian language and psyanky egg decorating! \nThe Athletic Club hosts 1\,100 members who pay affordable fees to attend in Yoga\, Water Aerobics\, Spinning\, Tai Chi\, and Zumba classes in the fitness studios\, enjoy our heated indoor swimming pool\, gymnasium with a walking track\, and train for baseball/softball using our indoor batting cages. 200 youth participate in year-round sports lessons and 230 adults enjoy year-round basketball and volleyball leagues. 150 children and adults learned to swim\, participated in aquatics exercise and scuba instruction classes. 550 seniors are active members of our Silver Sneakers/Silver and Fit exercise classes geared to older adults. \nThe Music Hall seats 1\,045 guests in an intimate atmosphere that has changed very little from the original venue. In 2019\, 50\,000 patrons traveled from Western Pennsylvania and across the country to see nationally known entertainers such as American Idol\, Dave Chappelle\, Pete Davidson\, Boz Scaggs\, Sturgill Simpson\, Jeff Goldblum\, and more. The Music Hall uniquely serves also as a “community house” to local nonprofits offering meeting space for civic engagement\, programs and services such as graduation commencement exercises\, naturalization ceremonies\, school band concerts\, church plays and local dance recitals. Year-round\, the music hall serves as an economic driver for nearby restaurants\, retail establishments and hotels – for every 50 shows held\, the Carnegie brings over $1\,000\,000 in revenue to the Waterfront and Eighth Avenue business districts. Win prizes! \nTeams of up to six welcome. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. Paul plays an antique Albert System clarinet\, which gives him a wonderfully distinctive sound not often heard on today’s bandstands. In addition to providing vocals\, Paul also splits time on the alto and tenor saxophones. Paul has an extensive repertoire of tunes encompassing the Great American Songbook- written by some of the best-known composers of American popular song. He is also well versed in early New Orleans jazz\, the Swing Era\, big band riffs\, and everything in between. Paul is known globally for his enthusiastic\, energetic\, and powerful performances. \nPaul Cosentino founded the Boilermaker Jazz Band in 1988. Paul has also been featured as a soloist with many of the top bands in the swing world today\, including a special appearance with the Jonathan Stout All-Star Big Band during an Artie Shaw tribute set. Paul has also been featured with Glen Crytzer’s Rhythm Makers\, Michael Gambles Rhythm Serenaders\, the Gordon Webster Band\, Naomi and Her Handsome Devils\, the Russ Wilson Swingtet\, Clint Baker’s Golden Gate Swing Band\, and many more. The second of three libraries built here in the Mon Valley\, the Carnegie Library of Homestead was built for use by the common man but adorned with grandeur and opulence fit for a royal family. The Carnegie Library of Homestead is the oldest Carnegie library in continuous operation in its original structure in the US\, and was chosen by CNN in 2014 as one of the 27 most fascinating libraries in the world to visit. Unique to other libraries\, it also is home to a full-service athletic facility and grand concert hall. \nAlso known as the Carnegie of Homestead\, its modern mission is to provide programs and facilities that enhance learning\, wellness and quality of life within and outside the Steel Valley. Today\, we serve over 17\,000 residents of Munhall\, Homestead\, West Homestead\, Whitaker\, and families in nearby communities such as West Mifflin\, Lincoln Place\, Hays\, Greenfield\, Squirrel Hill\, Duquesne and more. The Carnegie of Homestead uplifts and improves the lives of youth\, families and the elderly\, by serving as a community activities center for families and groups throughout the Mon Valley. \nThe Library holds 3\,000\,000 county-wide items in collection including books\, audiobooks\, DVDs\, CDs\, newspapers\, magazines and eResources. There are nearly 7\,000 cardholders (35% of our residents) and on average 733 people visit daily. 30 computers provide over 30\,000 online access sessions annually by the general public\, including disadvantaged individuals who cannot afford home computers and online services. The library holds over 1\,000 learning programs annually in which almost 20\,000 participate of all ages. On any given day\, a variety of activities are happening: toddler and children story time\, arts and crafts; science and art classes for homeschooled children; literacy outreach & book distribution to 30+ local preschools and daycare centers; homework assistance for teens equipped with computers and media; laptops and iPads with college-level computer programming\, and STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Arts\, Math) workshops including robotics in the Makerspace classroom; book clubs for teens through seniors\, knitting classes\, crafting workshops for adults\, and cultural programs such as Japanese or Russian language and psyanky egg decorating! \nThe Athletic Club hosts 1\,100 members who pay affordable fees to attend in Yoga\, Water Aerobics\, Spinning\, Tai Chi\, and Zumba classes in the fitness studios\, enjoy our heated indoor swimming pool\, gymnasium with a walking track\, and train for baseball/softball using our indoor batting cages. 200 youth participate in year-round sports lessons and 230 adults enjoy year-round basketball and volleyball leagues. 150 children and adults learned to swim\, participated in aquatics exercise and scuba instruction classes. 550 seniors are active members of our Silver Sneakers/Silver and Fit exercise classes geared to older adults. \nThe Music Hall seats 1\,045 guests in an intimate atmosphere that has changed very little from the original venue. In 2019\, 50\,000 patrons traveled from Western Pennsylvania and across the country to see nationally known entertainers such as American Idol\, Dave Chappelle\, Pete Davidson\, Boz Scaggs\, Sturgill Simpson\, Jeff Goldblum\, and more. The Music Hall uniquely serves also as a “community house” to local nonprofits offering meeting space for civic engagement\, programs and services such as graduation commencement exercises\, naturalization ceremonies\, school band concerts\, church plays and local dance recitals. Year-round\, the music hall serves as an economic driver for nearby restaurants\, retail establishments and hotels – for every 50 shows held\, the Carnegie brings over $1\,000\,000 in revenue to the Waterfront and Eighth Avenue business districts. Participants will have the chance to learn and experiment with multiple pattern-making materials and create multiple large and complex multi-part sand molds.\nPrior experience or Intro to Iron Casting is recommended. Registration includes access to the Carrie Furnaces foundry daily between 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and the ultimate experience of participating in an iron pour from a coke-fired cupola—just like the historic furnaces onsite!\nAll items for the workshop will be cast on Saturday\, October 5. Cooled castings can be picked up Sunday\, October 6.\nPlease note that the iron-casting operation is scheduled from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m.\, but it can often last eight or more hours. The actual start time for the casting period is determined the day of the event\, based on mold count\, outdoor temperature\, and other factors. Additionally\, the pick-up window is 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. However\, it may be later than anticipated if the casting operation lasts long into the previous evening. If you would like to participate in the casting portion of the workshop then work boots are required footwear. We have all other necessary safety gear on site. The workshop space is not temperature controlled; please dress for the weather. Additionally\, the ground is uneven – sensible shoes are a must. Open-toed shoes and high heels are prohibited.\nRestrooms & concessions: The rawness of the site is certainly part of its charm. However\, that rawness also limits the creature comforts many of us are accustomed to\, like running water. Portable bathrooms\, hand-washing stations\, and hand sanitizer are available. Food amenities are not available (with some exceptions\, such as food trucks at festivals).\nPhotography: Photography is permitted. For safety reasons\, videography and drones are prohibited.\nAccessibility: Handicapped parking is available\, and there is an ADA ramp into the Power House where workshops are held. The surrounding grounds are not wheelchair accessible\, but some assistance is available. DESCRIPTION:Tramp\, Tramp\, Tramp (1926 Silent Film) with Live Music Accompaniment at The Pump House Waterfront | Oct 1\nIn partnership with Pittsburgh Silent Film Society\, Rivers of Steel is pleased to present Tramp\, Tramp\, Tramp\, Harry Langdon’s classic comedy\,  accompanied live on piano by Tom Roberts. \nTramp\, Tramp\, Tramp is a 1926 American silent comedy film directed by Harry Edwards and starring Harry Langdon and Joan Crawford.\nHarry is a ne’er-do-well who falls in love with Betty\, a girl on a billboard. Harry participates in a cross country foot race hoping to win prize money in hopes of marrying her.\nHarry wins the race when a tornado strikes near the finish line.
