The WAP program is about flipping the non-profit artist funding model\, leaning into community as the center of supporting performers\, and collectively holding and using the resources to make work. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVolunteer or Perform with the GBX!\n\n\n\n\nDear fellow lover of theatre and performance!\nAre you and actor\, director\, tech person or simply have an interest in getting involved and supporting local DIY art making? We keep a running list of folks that might want to help out or be involved in a production or show. Drink beers. Answer questions. Win prizes! \nTeams of up to six welcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. Founded by the same people behind Pittsburgh’s beer bars the Independent Brewing Company and Lorelei\, Golden Age is dedicated to providing its community with an inclusive\, accepting\, safe and hospitable environment that focuses on people as much as it does great beer. \nWe are an equal opportunity employer that guarantees a living wage to everyone who works here. All that time\, we have asked\, what do these toys do when we’re not playing with them? \n“How to Spot Counterfeit Beanie Babies” is a grey market VHS tape released in 1998. The tape itself is auxiliary to a speculative market surrounding Ty’s line of Beanie Baby stuffed animals which\, for a few short years\, would demand price points in the thousands before abruptly cratering in value at the close of the 20th century. The tape was not produced by the Ty corporation\, though it was permitted to use the company’s branding off the books\, as the point of the tape was to signify the value of the company to the niche set of whale investors who propped up the Beanie bubble in question. \nThe Beanie bubble is cited as an especially frivolous instance of speculative investment\, though\, it is only absurd because it is recent history. If we squint\, we can see an identical frenzy in the half of American men who regularly bet on sports\, or our video game industry’s roots in gambling markets\, or the Catholic clerics who were subject to excommunication due to their affinity for deriving divination from the roll of the dice. What is it about this notion of play that is so attractive to addictive personalities? \n“Furpile” is a please-touch plushie sculpture show showing in various venues throughout Pittsburgh this summer. 70+ artists were invited to produce a unique stuffy that audiences are encouraged to see\, touch\, squeeze\, sniff\, and play with. \nThis screening will use the VHS tape “How to Spot Counterfeit Beanie Babies” as a framework for exploring the hidden histories of fabrics. They like doggy paddling around the pool\, reading comics in the grass\, and going out on w-a-l-k-s to sniff out ALL of the Free Library Boxes. \nKramer Dog (He/Him) is a decent enough dog and co-host for this variety. He likes roaming off the leash\, eating delicious food off of tables\, and watching squirrels cautiously from a second-story window. \nRegarding The Glitterbox – \nThis space is built on community and DIY\, two values which are also held closely by the furry community at large. Win prizes! \nTeams of up to six welcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. Win prizes! \nTeams of up to six welcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. DESCRIPTION:Borbo\, Prism and Friends at the Glitterbox Theater\nBorbo/Prism is an eponymous duo of artists. They hail from Bushwick\, Brooklyn- famously memed for its colorful cast of characters- where they work extensively in the DIY experimental performance art scene. \nPrism’s (they/she) work is focused on visual storytelling\, with a heavy reliance on folkloric imagery. Having come-of-age in the Appalachian countryside of Ohio\, their works’ themes often reflect on the conflicting reality of tradition and personal identity. Prism practices mostly in the mediums of conventional “feminine craft” (sewing\, embroidery\, applique\, textiles). They then force new meaning onto these heavily connotated mediums by enmeshing them with the performance art practices typically overrun with male artists (puppetry\, noise music\, clowning). \nBorbo (it/its) is a queer non-binary percussionist\, performance artist\, and noise clown. It draws inspiration from a wide range of genres\, including psychedelia\, free improvisation\, and jazz-fusion. Anything it can strike\, scrape or shake is a potential musical instrument – drum sets\, found objects\, toys\, and self-made percussive sculptures are all fair game. Borbo has also been observed using live electronics and contact mics as an electro-acoustic tool to augment its percussive sonic palette. A natural buffoon since birth\, Borbo rejects self-seriousness in favor of whimsy\, queering its own reality by transfiguring clown from performance art to lifestyle and gender. \nThe duo is currently on their Rust Belt Tour. Blending their typical acts with the essence of the road\, the themes have a bit more of a bite to them than they would in Brooklyn. Through this journey\, they hope to continue to curate a unique and whimsical craft to share with the world.
