DESCRIPTION:Borbo\, Prism and Friends at the Glitterbox Theater\nBorbo/Prism is an eponymous duo of artists. They hail from Bushwick\, Brooklyn- famously memed for its colorful cast of characters- where they work extensively in the DIY experimental performance art scene. \nPrism’s (they/she) work is focused on visual storytelling\, with a heavy reliance on folkloric imagery. Having come-of-age in the Appalachian countryside of Ohio\, their works’ themes often reflect on the conflicting reality of tradition and personal identity. Prism practices mostly in the mediums of conventional “feminine craft” (sewing\, embroidery\, applique\, textiles). They then force new meaning onto these heavily connotated mediums by enmeshing them with the performance art practices typically overrun with male artists (puppetry\, noise music\, clowning). \nBorbo (it/its) is a queer non-binary percussionist\, performance artist\, and noise clown. It draws inspiration from a wide range of genres\, including psychedelia\, free improvisation\, and jazz-fusion. Anything it can strike\, scrape or shake is a potential musical instrument – drum sets\, found objects\, toys\, and self-made percussive sculptures are all fair game. Borbo has also been observed using live electronics and contact mics as an electro-acoustic tool to augment its percussive sonic palette. A natural buffoon since birth\, Borbo rejects self-seriousness in favor of whimsy\, queering its own reality by transfiguring clown from performance art to lifestyle and gender. \nThe duo is currently on their Rust Belt Tour. Blending their typical acts with the essence of the road\, the themes have a bit more of a bite to them than they would in Brooklyn. Through this journey\, they hope to continue to curate a unique and whimsical craft to share with the world. You can connect with them on Instagram at @borbo.the.clown and @maximum_security_prism. \nThey will be joined by local clowns\, noise musicians and experimentors of the absurd – INCLUDING AZIZZY. Tickets are $5-25 sliding scale\, available online or at door. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. DESCRIPTION:Pittsburgh Free Theater: Lughnasadh Performance at the Glitterbox Theater | July 31\nBorbo/Prism is an eponymous duo of artists. They hail from Bushwick\, Brooklyn- famously memed for its colorful cast of characters- where they work extensively in the DIY experimental performance art scene. \nPrism’s (they/she) work is focused on visual storytelling\, with a heavy reliance on folkloric imagery. Having come-of-age in the Appalachian countryside of Ohio\, their works’ themes often reflect on the conflicting reality of tradition and personal identity. Prism practices mostly in the mediums of conventional “feminine craft” (sewing\, embroidery\, applique\, textiles). They then force new meaning onto these heavily connotated mediums by enmeshing them with the performance art practices typically overrun with male artists (puppetry\, noise music\, clowning). \nBorbo (it/its) is a queer non-binary percussionist\, performance artist\, and noise clown. It draws inspiration from a wide range of genres\, including psychedelia\, free improvisation\, and jazz-fusion. Anything it can strike\, scrape or shake is a potential musical instrument – drum sets\, found objects\, toys\, and self-made percussive sculptures are all fair game. Borbo has also been observed using live electronics and contact mics as an electro-acoustic tool to augment its percussive sonic palette. A natural buffoon since birth\, Borbo rejects self-seriousness in favor of whimsy\, queering its own reality by transfiguring clown from performance art to lifestyle and gender. \nThe duo is currently on their Rust Belt Tour. Blending their typical acts with the essence of the road\, the themes have a bit more of a bite to them than they would in Brooklyn. Through this journey\, they hope to continue to curate a unique and whimsical craft to share with the world. This programs is specifically designed to reduce the cost of access to theater resources\, rehearsal space and other things that make performance hard to do. As a WAP participant you pay a monthly due\, but get priority calendar access\, free space usage\, and keep all the proceeds for the art you make. Win prizes! \nTeams of up to six welcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. Win prizes! \nTeams of up to six welcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. The Carnegie Library of Homestead is the oldest Carnegie library in continuous operation in its original structure in the US\, and was chosen by CNN in 2014 as one of the 27 most fascinating libraries in the world to visit. Unique to other libraries\, it also is home to a full-service athletic facility and grand concert hall. \nAlso known as the Carnegie of Homestead\, its modern mission is to provide programs and facilities that enhance learning\, wellness and quality of life within and outside the Steel Valley. Today\, we serve over 17\,000 residents of Munhall\, Homestead\, West Homestead\, Whitaker\, and families in nearby communities such as West Mifflin\, Lincoln Place\, Hays\, Greenfield\, Squirrel Hill\, Duquesne and more. There are nearly 7\,000 cardholders (35% of our residents) and on average 733 people visit daily. 30 computers provide over 30\,000 online access sessions annually by the general public\, including disadvantaged individuals who cannot afford home computers and online services. The library holds over 1\,000 learning programs annually in which almost 20\,000 participate of all ages. On any given day\, a variety of activities are happening: toddler and children story time\, arts and crafts; science and art classes for homeschooled children; literacy outreach & book distribution to 30+ local preschools and daycare centers; homework assistance for teens equipped with computers and media; laptops and iPads with college-level computer programming\, and STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Arts\, Math) workshops including robotics in the Makerspace classroom; book clubs for teens through seniors\, knitting classes\, crafting workshops for adults\, and cultural programs such as Japanese or Russian language and psyanky egg decorating! \nThe Athletic Club hosts 1\,100 members who pay affordable fees to attend in Yoga\, Water Aerobics\, Spinning\, Tai Chi\, and Zumba classes in the fitness studios\, enjoy our heated indoor swimming pool\, gymnasium with a walking track\, and train for baseball/softball using our indoor batting cages. 200 youth participate in year-round sports lessons and 230 adults enjoy year-round basketball and volleyball leagues. 150 children and adults learned to swim\, participated in aquatics exercise and scuba instruction classes. 550 seniors are active members of our Silver Sneakers/Silver and Fit exercise classes geared to older adults. \nThe Music Hall seats 1\,045 guests in an intimate atmosphere that has changed very little from the original venue. The workshop space is not temperature controlled\, but there are space heaters in the winter months. Please dress for the weather. Additionally\, the ground is uneven—sensible shoes are a must. Open-toed shoes and high heels are prohibited.\nRestrooms & concessions: The rawness of the site is certainly part of its charm. However\, that rawness also limits the creature comforts many of us are accustomed to\, like running water. Portable bathrooms\, hand washing stations\, and hand sanitizer are available. Food amenities are not available (with some exceptions\, such as food trucks at festivals).\nPhotography: Photography is permitted. For safety reasons\, videography and drones are prohibited.\nAccessibility: Handicapped parking is available and the ramp to the workshop space is ADA compliant. However\, the grounds to the space may not be accessible for all wheelchairs.
