DESCRIPTION:Sad Boys in Harpy Land at Glitterbox Theater \n“A THRILLING & FRENETIC MENTAL BREAKDOWN OF A SHOW” (NYT) \nEqual parts anxious clown show\, demented cabaret\, and extended crisis of meaning\, Sad Boys in Harpy Land collages narratives of art making and despair into an unhinged solo performance that takes place in the hellscape of the mind. \nAfter sold-out runs everywhere from Off-Broadway to multiple basements\, self-proclaimed “experimental clown artist” Alex Tatarsky brings their (dubiously) hit show Sad Boys in Harpy Land to The Glitterbox! Embracing the spiral\, the unfinished\, and the broken bits\, the piece attempts to move through the inaction born of anxiety\, shame\, and overwhelm towards strange & ecstatic modes of re-writing the world together. \nCreated & Performed by Alex Tatarsky \nLive Music by Shane Riley \nDirected by Iris McCloughan \nScenic\, Costumes\, Props Design by Andreea Mincic \nLighting Design by Masha Tsimring \nDeveloped with Eva Steinmetz \nCalled a “hilarious\, finely tuned absurdist” (Theatre Jones) and “outrageous and profane” (NYT)\, Alex Tatarsky makes performances in the uncomfortable in-between zone of comedy\, dance-theater\, performance art\, and deluded rant–sometimes with songs. Tatarsky experienced fleeting fame as Andy Kaufman’s daughter and used to perform as a mound of dirt. Playing with perceptions of language and narrative structure\, their live performances are highly responsive to venue and audience. They are currently touring their composting clown show Dirt Trip.
