SUMMARY:Sunset Photo Safari at the Carrie Blast Furnaces | June 28

Attendees will enjoy an open shooting environment with minimal interruption\, allowing plenty of time to capture wide industrial landscapes\, intricate details\, and the unique atmosphere of this National Historic Landmark. \nWhile the program is recommended for photographers comfortable working in low-light conditions\, both beginners and experienced photographers are welcome. Whether you’re interested in industrial photography\, local history\, architecture\, or simply looking for a unique evening experience\, the Sunset Photo Safari offers access to one of the region’s most photographed historic sites. \nParticipants should wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy closed-toe shoes\, as the grounds are uneven and largely outdoors. Photography is encouraged\, but drones and videography are not permitted. \nSpace is limited and advance registration is recommended. \nEvent Details\n\nSunday\, June 28\, 2026\n6:30 PM – 9:30 PM\nCarrie Blast Furnaces\n801 Carrie Furnace Boulevard\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15218\n$40 General Admission\nAdvance registration recommended\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nabout RIVERS OF STEEL\n\nRivers of Steel showcases the artistry and innovation of southwestern Pennsylvania’s industrial and cultural heritage through its historical and 21st-century attractions—offering unique experiences via tours\, workshops\, exhibitions\, festivals\, and more. \nBehind the scenes\, Rivers of Steel supports economic revitalization—working at the grassroots level to deepen community partnerships\, promote heritage tourism\, and preserve local recreational and cultural resources for future generations. \n\nOur Mission\n\n\n\nFounded on the principles of heritage development\, community partnership\, and a reverence for the region’s natural and shared resources\, Rivers of Steel strengthens the economic and cultural fabric of western Pennsylvania by fostering dynamic initiatives and transformative experiences. \nOur Story: A vision for the future\, built on the past\n\n\nRivers of Steel’s journey began in the aftermath of the collapsed steel industry. In 1988\, a group of citizens got together\, united by their concerns that with destruction of the shuttered mills an important part of our region’s culture was in danger of being erased\, too. \nThe prevailing sentiment at the time was not one of reverence for the industry; rather\, it was a stew of mixed emotions—anger for the way things went down\, loss of identity in the face of joblessness\, and fear of an uncertain future. The emotional landscape was too raw for most folks to want to celebrate what the steel industry once was\, especially when it was painfully obvious that this ‘industrial downturn’ reflected permanent change. \nLong story short: those citizens organized as a task force. Four years later\, the nonprofit organization that was to become Rivers of Steel was established to carry the torch of Big Steel and its related industries—not simply telling the companies’ stories and the products they made\, but the stories of the men and women who worked there. \nIt is a legacy was too important not to save. Relics and remnants were captured\, so were oral histories. The scope of which grew beyond the workers themselves\, encompassing the neighborhoods they represented—their languages\, their churches\, their traditions and recipes—and sowed the seeds of what was to become Rivers of Steel’s archival\, cultural conservation and exhibition programs. \n\n\nRivers of Steel: A nonprofit\, but also a place\nCreated by Congress in 1996\, the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area celebrates the region’s industrial history\, the landscape that fueled it\, and the hardworking men and women who made it possible\, linking its communities through their shared cultural and industrial heritage.

SUMMARY:Friday Night Swing Dance with Pittsburgh Swing Dance Community at Golden Age Beer Co. | June 12
DESCRIPTION:Friday Night Swing Dance with Pittsburgh Swing Dance Community at Golden Age Beer Co.\n\nFriday\, June 12\, 2026\n7:00 PM  10:00 PM\n\n\nGolden Age Beer Company 337 East 8th AvenueHomestead\, PA\, 15120 United States (map)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re so excited to be partnering with Pittsburgh Swing Dance Community & Paul Cosentino’s Boilermaker Jazz Band for a Friday night event!!  Come for the dancing. Or the live music. Or the great beer. Or come for all three! \nNo experience\, no partner required. Free to the people. \nNot sure you want to come and dance? That’s perfectly fine! You’re also welcome to just come and hang out! Bring those friends who “don’t dance” but have been curious to see you dance! Pop in\, pop out\, and have a great time! \nPaul Cosentino has been a full-time musician and bandleader for over 30 years\, specializing in classic jazz and popular music from the 1920s to the 1940s. Paul plays an antique Albert System clarinet\, which gives him a wonderfully distinctive sound not often heard on today’s bandstands. In addition to providing vocals\, Paul also splits time on the alto and tenor saxophones. Paul has an extensive repertoire of tunes encompassing the Great American Songbook- written by some of the best-known composers of American popular song. He is also well versed in early New Orleans jazz\, the Swing Era\, big band riffs\, and everything in between. Paul is known globally for his enthusiastic\, energetic\, and powerful performances. \nPaul Cosentino founded the Boilermaker Jazz Band in 1988. Paul has also been featured as a soloist with many of the top bands in the swing world today\, including a special appearance with the Jonathan Stout All-Star Big Band during an Artie Shaw tribute set. Paul has also been featured with Glen Crytzer’s Rhythm Makers\, Michael Gambles Rhythm Serenaders\, the Gordon Webster Band\, Naomi and Her Handsome Devils\, the Russ Wilson Swingtet\, Clint Baker’s Golden Gate Swing Band\, and many more. He has also led a number of All-Star groups. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe love lager.\n\n\n\n\nWe started Golden Age Beer Co. because we are passionate about making clean and crisp lagers that are eminently drinkable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom crisp Northern German and fragrant Italian-style pilsners to luxurious dunkels and Franconian rauchbiers to the easy-drinking\, “lawnmower” American lager\, we believe that\, with their clean\, subtle and eminently-drinkable finesse\, lagers are the beers that bring people together\, that cross divides\, and that are both the past and the future of beer.  And so we brought a brewery that makes lager its primary focus to Pittsburgh and\, more particularly\, to Homestead.  Indeed\, we believe that to do anything else would be an injustice to this community’s hard-working\, steely heritage and resolve.  When this community rose up in 1892 to rebuff a barge full of armed Pinkertons\, it was fueled by Homestead-brewed lager\, while the very brewers who crafted that lager stood in solidarity with their steel-worker brethren on the banks of the Monongahela.  We hope that we can stand in solidarity with this community once more as it continues on its path to a new golden age. \nOur brewhouse is well-equipped to produce the finest lagers.  We are fortunate to brew on a state-of-the-art 15 barrel BrauKon brewing system.  Bavarian-made and designed to manufacture the world’s most precise beer styles\, this system provides our brewing team with the tools it needs to walk the tightrope to make perfect lager\, which is defined nearly as much by its absence of imperfections as it is by its pursuit of perfection.  In what feels like a meeting driven by fate itself\, we were fortunate to find a head brewer who is up to the challenge of working with a system that has a lofty reputation for precision and finesse. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet Head Brewer Aaron Dahl\nHead Brewer Aaron Dahl joined Golden Age in 2021 to oversee the transition of the brew house and begin working on recipe development.  Aaron comes from Chicago’s Alarmist Brewing\, where he was the head brewer for six years prior to moving to Pittsburgh to head the Golden Age Beer team. In the past several years\, Aaron has earned three medals in the Great American Beer Festival:  in 2018\, the Gold Medal in the Hazy IPA category for “Le Jus;” in 2020\, the Bronze Medal for the Pale Ale category for “Pantsless Pale Ale;” and\, in 2021\, the Bronze Medal in the American Lager category for “Midwest Royalty.” He has dedicated his professional life to beer.  And while he can produce some of the best IPAs and Pale Ales in the country\, over the past several years\, his passion — like ours — has turned towards lagers\, and he is excited to run a brew house that is dedicated to and designed for the same passion. \nGolden Age Beer Co. is located in historic Homestead\, Pennsylvania\, just outside of Pittsburgh. Founded by the same people behind Pittsburgh’s beer bars the Independent Brewing Company and Lorelei\, Golden Age is dedicated to providing its community with an inclusive\, accepting\, safe and hospitable environment that focuses on people as much as it does great beer. \nWe are an equal opportunity employer that guarantees a living wage to everyone who works here. We welcome dogs and children.

However you show up\, you’re welcome here. \nNO TOUCH REQUIRED OR EXPECTED. \nWe open with a short circle to share community agreements and offer a few tools for navigating consent\, communication\, and comfort in shared space. From there\, the space is yours to explore—whether that means making a new friend\, holding hands\, dancing with headphones on\, or curling up solo in the “Solo Salon.” Touch is never required or expected. \nAll genders\, orientations\, relationship styles\, neurotypes\, and bodies are welcome. No prior experience needed. Come solo\, with a partner\, or with friends. This space is queer-affirming\, trauma-informed\, and sensory-friendly. \nWhat can I expect at this event? \nThe Cozy Collective creates an atmosphere similar to a cuddle social\, which is a space curated to create a safe atmosphere to connect with others. It starts with an opening circle and workshop in consent where you learn to feel into your own body and practice saying “Yes” and “No” without any expectations. We teach how to respond in a safe way to verbal and nonverbal communication and how to empower ourselves to be better at communicating with others\, including learning neutral body language. \nThen we move into an open practice\, where you can choose how you want to connect with others or with yourself! There will be many options for relaxation activities in a soft\, cushiony space. Feel free to relax in stillness\, move around the space\, or witness! Read into your body and do what feels right to you. \nSome ways you can connect in this space: \nEye gazing \nMirroring through hand movements \nTalking or listening to others and holding space \nJournaling\, drawing\, or listening to music \nCuddling with a stuffed animal \nSitting solo where no one will disturb you \nJoin the connection corner for help making connections \nHugging or leaning on someone’s shoulder \nPlaying with someone’s hair \nHand or shoulder massage \nLaying back to back \nJoining a train\, spoon line\, or bear den \nCome up with your own ideas! \nSchedule \n1:00 PM – Registration begins Note: Doors close at 1:30 PM. Please text Trisha at 814-969-9418 if you are running late. \n1:30 PM – Opening Circle Enjoy relaxation activities\, meditation\, communication exercises\, cuddle etiquette\, and our voluntary cuddle lab \n2:30 PM – Cuddle Social begins Grab a snack! Make a friend! Relax! Meditate! Connect! \n4:30 PM – Closing Circle Fond Farewells and goodbye hugs if we want them! You are welcome to stay until 5:00 pm and help with cleanup if you want! \nWhat does it cost? \nTickets for this event are $20. We offer abundance pricing using the PWYC (Pay What You Can) for those who need low income tickets. Choose how you want to support us! \nWhat should I wear or bring? \n🧸👚 Bring your comfiest\, cuddliest attire and anything that makes you feel safe. Pajamas or stretchy pants are common. Make sure your outfit covers your torso and bottom. Stuffed animals and onesies are welcome! Snacks are more than welcome\, but leave the intoxicants at home – this event is all about pure\, wholesome connection. \nWhat is acceptable in the space? \n✅ Laughing and crying are welcome. Being quiet. Asking for touch with neutral body language. \n❌ No short shorts or nighties please. No heavy perfumes or cologne. No alcohol or intoxicants (unless it’s specific to the events theme). No excessively loud conversations. No touching anyone without a verbal yes for each touch request\, even if you already had an interaction with that person. \nWhat do I do if I feel turned on? \nThese socials are platonic safe spaces. We do not promote shame around having feelings in your body\, but we do strive to towards platonic connection at all times in the cuddle space. If you are feeling overwhelmed\, you can move to a different area or snack area\, or exit the social altogether. You can also speak with one of our consent angels for more guidance. \nWhat if I feel sick after buying a ticket? \nWe would like to protect our lovely community so please stay home if you are feeling under the weather. Your ticket can be reimbursed or saved for a future event. Thank you for keeping us safe! \nWhat are consent angels? \nConsent Angels are volunteers that have been through consent training and help co-create a safe environment. These folks will be easy to spot throughout the event and you can come to them at any time for assistance (even if they look busy!). They will also be keeping an eye out for consent mishaps and will kindly help folks learn the best ways to create a safe space together. \n🌟 Together\, we’ll co-create community guidelines to foster a warm\, safe environment for all. And remember\, your safety is our priority. If you feel like leaving at any time\, just notify one of the hosts or angles so we know you are safe. \nWho is hosting this event? \nTrisha is a passionate queer community builder who loves creating unique and memorable experiences. After the pandemic\, she has been trying to rebuild communities in new ways that strive to connect people more than ever. She started 3rd Place to promote events that help connect\, educate\, and grow the communities we live in. \nWhat is the venue? \nWe will be located at Glitterbox Theater in Homestead which offers a wide\, open space full of cozy corners. There is street parking nearby and bathrooms in an ADA accessible space. There will be couches\, chairs\, mats\, air mattresses\, and snacks. \nLooking for something softer in this loud world? \nBring your stuffie\, your curiosity\, and your whole self—we’ll bring the pillows and the vibes. Community magic happens when we slow down together. Come get cozy with us! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRent the Space\n\n\n\n\nThe theater is available for rent for shows\, performances or rehearsals. Check out the venue info page if you have questions about size\, capacity\, layout or technical details of the space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGlitterbox Working Artist Program\n\n\n\n\nThe Glitterbox family is pleased to announce the launch of our Working Artist Program. This programs is specifically designed to reduce the cost of access to theater resources\, rehearsal space and other things that make performance hard to do. As a WAP participant you pay a monthly due\, but get priority calendar access\, free space usage\, and keep all the proceeds for the art you make. The WAP program is about flipping the non-profit artist funding model\, leaning into community as the center of supporting performers\, and collectively holding and using the resources to make work. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVolunteer or Perform with the GBX!\n\n\n\n\nDear fellow lover of theatre and performance!\nAre you and actor\, director\, tech person or simply have an interest in getting involved and supporting local DIY art making? We keep a running list of folks that might want to help out or be involved in a production or show. Let us know what you are interested in! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDonate\n\n\n\n\nThe Glitterbox Theater is run by an all volunteer collective made up of artists and supporters. We strive to keep the venue as inexpensive as possible\, while still providing the resources for folks to put on amazing work. We believe we occupy a very unique place in the Pittsburgh theater and performance community. Please consider supporting us through a single or recurring donation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
