SUMMARY:Daniel Maseda: Clowning & Nonsense; an open-level workshop at the Glitterbox Theater
DESCRIPTION:Daniel Maseda: Clowning & Nonsense; an open-level workshop at the Glitterbox Theater \nPlease sign up by emailing Daniel at danielfmaseda@gmail.com \nWorkshop Cost: Sliding Scale ($45-$60) \nPay at https://www.simpletix.com/e/daniel-maseda-clowning-nonsense-an-open-le-tickets-247318 \nSome clowns don’t speak. Some can’t help but run their mouths.   \nIn this experimental clown/improv workshop\, we will explore absurd language as an avenue for discovery. Through clowning games and improvisational exercises that use invented words\, dubbing\, translation\, babbling\, and sound effects\, we will explore what special kinds of fun can emerge when we turn our legibility down to level zero while keeping our dignity turned up to level 10. How fun can it be to make no sense? \nAll are welcome! No clowning experience required. Participants will be given on-the-fly feedback throughout the workshop\, while also being asked to work quickly and embrace moments of uncertainty—so the more ready you are to dive in\, the more we can play\, fail\, and discover together as a group. Come mess around! \nINSTRUCTOR BIO \nDaniel Maseda (he/him) is a performer from Washington\, DC who makes ridiculous work. He is currently touring his debut solo “BE GOOD!” WITH PAULETTE\, which played at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe (★★★★\, Pick of the Fringe) and was awarded the inaugural Fringie for best Clown performance at the 2025 Philadelphia Fringe. Alongside his performance work\, Daniel teaches workshops on clown\, improvisation\, and devising. He is a graduate of École Philippe Gaulier.

The second of three libraries built here in the Mon Valley\, the Carnegie Library of Homestead was built for use by the common man but adorned with grandeur and opulence fit for a royal family. The Carnegie Library of Homestead is the oldest Carnegie library in continuous operation in its original structure in the US\, and was chosen by CNN in 2014 as one of the 27 most fascinating libraries in the world to visit. Unique to other libraries\, it also is home to a full-service athletic facility and grand concert hall. \nAlso known as the Carnegie of Homestead\, its modern mission is to provide programs and facilities that enhance learning\, wellness and quality of life within and outside the Steel Valley. Today\, we serve over 17\,000 residents of Munhall\, Homestead\, West Homestead\, Whitaker\, and families in nearby communities such as West Mifflin\, Lincoln Place\, Hays\, Greenfield\, Squirrel Hill\, Duquesne and more. The Carnegie of Homestead uplifts and improves the lives of youth\, families and the elderly\, by serving as a community activities center for families and groups throughout the Mon Valley. \nThe Library holds 3\,000\,000 county-wide items in collection including books\, audiobooks\, DVDs\, CDs\, newspapers\, magazines and eResources. There are nearly 7\,000 cardholders (35% of our residents) and on average 733 people visit daily. 30 computers provide over 30\,000 online access sessions annually by the general public\, including disadvantaged individuals who cannot afford home computers and online services. The library holds over 1\,000 learning programs annually in which almost 20\,000 participate of all ages. On any given day\, a variety of activities are happening: toddler and children story time\, arts and crafts; science and art classes for homeschooled children; literacy outreach & book distribution to 30+ local preschools and daycare centers; homework assistance for teens equipped with computers and media; laptops and iPads with college-level computer programming\, and STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Arts\, Math) workshops including robotics in the Makerspace classroom; book clubs for teens through seniors\, knitting classes\, crafting workshops for adults\, and cultural programs such as Japanese or Russian language and psyanky egg decorating! \nThe Athletic Club hosts 1\,100 members who pay affordable fees to attend in Yoga\, Water Aerobics\, Spinning\, Tai Chi\, and Zumba classes in the fitness studios\, enjoy our heated indoor swimming pool\, gymnasium with a walking track\, and train for baseball/softball using our indoor batting cages. 200 youth participate in year-round sports lessons and 230 adults enjoy year-round basketball and volleyball leagues. 150 children and adults learned to swim\, participated in aquatics exercise and scuba instruction classes. 550 seniors are active members of our Silver Sneakers/Silver and Fit exercise classes geared to older adults. \nThe Music Hall seats 1\,045 guests in an intimate atmosphere that has changed very little from the original venue. In 2019\, 50\,000 patrons traveled from Western Pennsylvania and across the country to see nationally known entertainers such as American Idol\, Dave Chappelle\, Pete Davidson\, Boz Scaggs\, Sturgill Simpson\, Jeff Goldblum\, and more. The Music Hall uniquely serves also as a “community house” to local nonprofits offering meeting space for civic engagement\, programs and services such as graduation commencement exercises\, naturalization ceremonies\, school band concerts\, church plays and local dance recitals. Year-round\, the music hall serves as an economic driver for nearby restaurants\, retail establishments and hotels – for every 50 shows held\, the Carnegie brings over $1\,000\,000 in revenue to the Waterfront and Eighth Avenue business districts. Space rentals and ticket sales provide revenue to support the facility and programs that serve our community. “The Carnegie of Homestead is a textbook example of social enterprise and sustainability reinvention\,” experts say\, “by using revenue from the music hall and its fitness club memberships to stay viable.” The library’s core mission has been preserved\, and then some: you can check out a book or use a computer\, take a Spinning class\, learn to swim or enjoy a concert. \nAndrew Carnegie’s vision is alive today as the Carnegie of Homestead continues its dedication to the community by providing vital resources to families throughout the Mon Valley. To read more about the history of the Carnegie of Homestead\, please visit the library’s website at www.CarnegieofHomestead.org.

SUMMARY:Sad Boys in Harpy Land at Glitterbox Theater
DESCRIPTION:Sad Boys in Harpy Land at Glitterbox Theater \n“A THRILLING & FRENETIC MENTAL BREAKDOWN OF A SHOW” (NYT) \nEqual parts anxious clown show\, demented cabaret\, and extended crisis of meaning\, Sad Boys in Harpy Land collages narratives of art making and despair into an unhinged solo performance that takes place in the hellscape of the mind. \nAfter sold-out runs everywhere from Off-Broadway to multiple basements\, self-proclaimed “experimental clown artist” Alex Tatarsky brings their (dubiously) hit show Sad Boys in Harpy Land to The Glitterbox! Embracing the spiral\, the unfinished\, and the broken bits\, the piece attempts to move through the inaction born of anxiety\, shame\, and overwhelm towards strange & ecstatic modes of re-writing the world together. \nCreated & Performed by Alex Tatarsky \nLive Music by Shane Riley \nDirected by Iris McCloughan \nScenic\, Costumes\, Props Design by Andreea Mincic \nLighting Design by Masha Tsimring \nDeveloped with Eva Steinmetz \nCalled a “hilarious\, finely tuned absurdist” (Theatre Jones) and “outrageous and profane” (NYT)\, Alex Tatarsky makes performances in the uncomfortable in-between zone of comedy\, dance-theater\, performance art\, and deluded rant–sometimes with songs. Tatarsky experienced fleeting fame as Andy Kaufman’s daughter and used to perform as a mound of dirt. Playing with perceptions of language and narrative structure\, their live performances are highly responsive to venue and audience. They are currently touring their composting clown show Dirt Trip. Past shows include: Americana Psychobabble (La Mama\, MoMA PS1)\, Untitled Freakout (The Kitchen)\, MATERIAL (The Whitney Museum) and Buttplug Gnome (Gibney). At the Poetry Project\, they organized a series on the poetics of rot. @tartar.biz \nSad Boys in Harpy Land was commissioned by Abrons Arts Center through the Jerome Foundation AIRspace Residency Program. Playwrights Horizons\, Inc\, in New York City produced the NYC Off Broadway Premiere of Sad Boys in Harpy Land in 2023. Sad Boys in Harpy Land received development support through FringeArts\, the Jilline Ringle Solo Performance Program at 1812 Productions\, Poetry Electric at La Mama\, MAAS and Cannonball Festival. \nPhoto by Maria Baranova \n$15 Presale/$20 Door\nDoors open at 7pm

SUMMARY:Dusty Slay: The Neighborhood Guy Tour LIVE at Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall *LIVE Standup Comedy*
DESCRIPTION:Dusty Slay: The Neighborhood Guy Tour\n\n\nFriday\, January 23rd\, 2026 | This event is for all ages. \n\n\n\n\n\nOutback Presents & Drusky Entertainment presents: \nDusty Slay \nFriday\, January 23rd\, 2026 \nDoors: 6:00PM / Show: 7:00PM \nCarnegie of Homestead Music Hall (Munhall\, PA) \n*All tickets subject to day of show price increase. Prices at the ticket link reflect the all-in ticket price (face value + fees) – minus any taxes / credit card processing fees. \nThis event is for all ages. \nYou can take the boy out of the trailer park\, but you can’t take the trailer park out of the boy… stand-up comedian Dusty Slay grew up on Lot 8 of a mobile home neighborhood in Opelika\, Alabama\, with a love for both classic country and rock and a career history peppered with jobs like waiting tables and selling pesticides. Now the Alabama native with the “We’re having a Good Time” attitude is hitting cities all across the country playing comedy clubs and selling out theaters filled with fans eager to imitate his signature Wave. \nThe trucker hat\, long hair and mustache\, flannel shirt and oversized glasses aren’t affectations to cultivate a stage persona as the B-side of a 1970s Bob Seger track—it’s just Dusty. As a young boy\, growing up in a trailer park\, Dusty never felt like he was poor. He didn’t even know folks were better off than him until he went to school and was the only kid whose home address said “Lot 8 Moore’s Trailer Park”. In his comedy he reflects\, “We never felt poor\, we just didn’t have everything growing up. Like instead of ice cream\, my mom would just pour milk into a bowl and then she’d call us in the room and say ‘welp\, you’re too late!’” Raised by a single mother with two daughters from a previous marriage\, Dusty’s unique family home was never lacking for warmth or love. His father\, always present in his life from the very beginning\, made sure to show him the simple joys of boyhood adventure. “We never had real pets growing up\, we just had prisoners of nature. A dog would wander up\, we’d chain it to a tree. Now he’s ours.” \nAs he came of age and started joining the workforce\, Dusty had many jobs. He had multiple stints as a dishwasher and waiter at restaurants and food chains like Papa Johns\, Jim Bob’s Chicken Fingers as well as a couple tours with Western Sizzlin’ and the historic Hyman’s Seafood. He spent 8 years as a pesticide salesman selling to hardware chains like Lowes and Home Depot. “A lot of people would come up to me and ask weird questions like\, we want something that’s gonna kill the insects but not harm the environment. I’d say well\, ‘How bout a shoe’. Cause I’m selling pesticides here.” In 2001\, Dusty bought back his childhood home\, the trailer that he grew up in. At this time he made plans to join the army\, but an untimely arrest for marijuana possession disrupted those plans. Later that September terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York and months after the country was at war. “Everything happens for a reason” says Dusty. After a few years of improv classes\, in 2008 Dusty was inspired to try his hand at stand-up comedy where he found his true calling. He won the Charleston Comedy Competition and was named Charleston City Paper’s Stand Up Comedian of the year in his then hometown two years in a row. In 2014 he made the move to Nashville and made Comedy a full-time gig touring comedy clubs all across the country. \nThe Nashville scene welcomed Dusty with open arms and at age 36\, Slay became the youngest comedian at the time to ever perform on the legendary Grand Ole Opry stage. To date he’s logged dozens of appearances in front of “his people” on the historic stage in the last few years fully embedding himself in the country music scene and having been asked to host some of the biggest events across the subculture\, including Hangover Fest at the ACMs in Las Vegas in 2022 and CMA Fest’s Forever Country Stage with the likes of Scotty McCreery\, Dustin Lynch\, Lainey Wilson and some of the most iconic names in the genre. \nIt wasn’t long before his comedy caught the attention of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he’s since performed 6 unforgettable late-night sets\, firmly establishing himself as a crowd favorite and bona fide star on the silver screen. His breakout performances launched him into the Netflix family featuring as one of six comics in season 3 of The Stand Ups\, highlighting the brightest new comedians at the top of their game in ½-hour stand-up comedy formats. Dusty made his solo Netflix debut January 2024 with his first one-hour special\, WORKIN’ MAN\, celebrating his many years as a “road dog” comic\, and the material he’s honed and crafted\, reflecting on his trailer park upbringing\, the hilarious nuance of hourly shift work and the amusing idiosyncrasies of everyday life. \nWORKIN’ MAN opened to tremendous success on the Netflix platform paving the way for partnerships and collaborations with iconic brands like Cracker Barrel\, Lugz and Field & Stream. Appearances on Hollywood Squares with Drew Barrymore as well as trending podcasts like This Past Weekend with Theo Von and Kill Tony have continue to raise Dusty’s profile from Nashville legend to mainstream comedy hero. In the summer of ’25\, Dusty released his latest Netflix special WET HEAT\, a love letter to the south sharing his experiences traveling the country and getting into mischief in the hot and muggy regions he’s always called home.
