SUMMARY:Borbo\, Prism and Friends at the Glitterbox Theater | July 20
DESCRIPTION:Borbo\, Prism and Friends at the Glitterbox Theater\nBorbo/Prism is an eponymous duo of artists. They hail from Bushwick\, Brooklyn- famously memed for its colorful cast of characters- where they work extensively in the DIY experimental performance art scene. \nPrism’s (they/she) work is focused on visual storytelling\, with a heavy reliance on folkloric imagery. Having come-of-age in the Appalachian countryside of Ohio\, their works’ themes often reflect on the conflicting reality of tradition and personal identity. Prism practices mostly in the mediums of conventional “feminine craft” (sewing\, embroidery\, applique\, textiles). They then force new meaning onto these heavily connotated mediums by enmeshing them with the performance art practices typically overrun with male artists (puppetry\, noise music\, clowning). \nBorbo (it/its) is a queer non-binary percussionist\, performance artist\, and noise clown. It draws inspiration from a wide range of genres\, including psychedelia\, free improvisation\, and jazz-fusion. Anything it can strike\, scrape or shake is a potential musical instrument – drum sets\, found objects\, toys\, and self-made percussive sculptures are all fair game. Borbo has also been observed using live electronics and contact mics as an electro-acoustic tool to augment its percussive sonic palette. A natural buffoon since birth\, Borbo rejects self-seriousness in favor of whimsy\, queering its own reality by transfiguring clown from performance art to lifestyle and gender. \nThe duo is currently on their Rust Belt Tour. Blending their typical acts with the essence of the road\, the themes have a bit more of a bite to them than they would in Brooklyn. Through this journey\, they hope to continue to curate a unique and whimsical craft to share with the world. You must present ID at the venue\, and the ticketholder’s name must match the name on the ticket. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJay Pharoah’s Bio\nActor and comedian Jay Pharoah is one of the industry’s most highly-anticipated leading men. \nPharoah most recently starred in the biopic SPINNING GOLD as Cecil Homes\, the right hand man of 1970s record producer Neil Bogart who co-founded Casablanca Records. Together they were behind the success of stars like Donna Summer\, Kiss and The Village People. He also starred in the Toronto International Film Festival triumph\, THE BLACKENING as Shawn. The film performed so well it was sold out of the festival to Lionsgate and will be released this upcoming Juneteenth weekend. \nIn the last few years\, Pharoah has appeared in Comedy Central’s OUT OF OFFICE alongside Ken Jeong and Oscar Nuñez and in the independent comedy MORT IN SHERMAN OAKS with Lucy Hale and Jim Gaffigan. He starred in Netflix’s RESORT TO LOVE with Cristina Milian for producer Alicia Keys and in the Lionsgate thriller PRIVATE PROPERTY. Pharoah also co-starred opposite Harry Shum Jr. in Universal’s ALL MY LIFE\, in Justin Simien’s critically acclaimed feature film BAD HAIR for Hulu\, and in Lionsgate’s 2 MINUTES OF FAME for director Leslie Small. \nOn the small screen\, Pharoah starred as “J.J. Evans” in ABC’s Emmy Award-winning Live in Front of a Studio Audience version of ALL IN THE FAMILY and GOOD TIMES. He currently hosts and produces the Nickelodeon hit gameshow UNFILTERED. \nBest known for his his spot-on impressions\, Pharoah spent six seasons as a cast member on NBC’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. In 2017\, he shifted to his first leading role as ‘Floyd Mooney’ in Showtime’s WHITE FAMOUS\, which was executive produced by Academy Award-winner Jaime Foxx and inspired by Foxx’s real-life experiences. \nAdditional film and television credits include Sony Picture’s animated feature\, THE MITCHELLS VS.
